It certainly is something to remember, the search engines know about all this stuff. They even guide you in some cases! Like I say, get nice targeted links whether it is nofollow or not and you're bound to get traffic at least!

Glad it helped. Yeah, still to this day I hear fellow SEO's grumble about a link because it doesn't pass much value.

In the grand scheme of things, if your link is placed on a good quality site that is somewhat related to your content then you should receive traffic.

It's funny how SEO is almost going a full 180 with how different things are important. Content is coming back big style with how important it is and I have felt for a long time that Google (and the others) can't rely too much on links for much longer.

Hey John, you have a great little blog here! Thats some really useful information on nofollow. A lot of folks – myself included – have found nofollow links confusing, probably because of the Google games. Thanks for making that more clear and giving us some ideas to build on. I definitely agree with the “some things dont happen naturally” approach to seo, and a perfectly manicured lawn (of a blog) is one of them! Sometimes being a little rough around the edges assures the search engines that we are the real people they are looking for. Thanks again!
