Wow – 25th post here on Helpfulguy.com and how fitting that it’s 25 random facts about me!
Thanks for all your comments and participation on my previous 24 posts, it’s really appreciated and long may it continue!
OK, so this idea isn’t mine. I saw this idea on Michelle MacPhearson’s Blog and thought it was really cool. Michelle is one of my 5 Ladies of Social Media too, so even better!
So, without further ado – lets get to my 25 Random Facts About Me: John Hutson. I hope you enjoy!
1. Some jobs I’ve had: Paperboy, Postman, Working in a Direct Mail Factory (sense a theme going on here?), Call Centre Agent, Call Centre Trainer, Call Centre Manager (oh another theme!) SEO Executive and Social Media guy (both current)
2. I’ve dislocated my left knee countless times. It hurts. I do not recommend it. The only plus side (if you can call it that) was I could choose glow in the dark plaster cast. And yes – it worked!
3. I am missing quite an important part of my digestive system. I had my large bowel removed when I was 17 due to illness. Again, this is not recommended.
4. As well as having a dodgy knee, and missing intestine, I also have 3 scars on my left calf due to a complication in one of my operations. This has been used to impress girls by saying I was bitten by a baby shark.
5. I like to be as active as possible – mostly manage to get to the gym 3 times a week and started swimming again. Used to be a bloody good swimmer and not bad at most sports before the knee let me down.
6. I’m born and bred English, only ever lived in 2 houses in my life (my parents and now mine) I live in a county called Essex (innit) which is quite cool but we do get labelled with some funny characteristics. My accent is pure Essex, which is almost like Cockney London.
7. I got into internet marketing by learning about how to make money online. I always liked the marketing elements in my degree and really got involved in online marketing. I then started to learn web design and in turn SEO. This has then since within the last year led me into embracing Social Media heavily.
8. I want to learn how to work using lists and to do’s as I’m too adhoc for my liking.
9. There are probably only about 2 cars that I would currently have (within “normal” money range) and that is the Nissan 350 or 370Z and the Nissan GTR. I had a 48hr test drive of the Nissan 350Z which I booked time off work for to enjoy fully. Oh yes I did.
10. My first car was a 1996 Peugeot 106 in blue and I passed my test in it (First time of course). I now currently have a black Peugeot 206cc (convertible) and had this since 2003. Not a bad car really – and we do actually tend to get good enough weather to have the roof down. This car also means I get accused of being a hairdresser.
11. I am rubbish at watching films. Lend me a film at your own risk as I will take forever to return it, and even then I wouldn’t have watched it. You could give me an empty DVD case and I wouldn’t know.
12. I am heavily into House music, as well as Trance, Drum’n’Bass, bit of Dubstep, Hip Hop and R’n’B (although not so much compared to the others)
13. I haven’t travelled to many parts of the country – in fact the furthest I’ve been up North is Alton Towers – which isn’t that far up North.
14. I believe that one day we are seriously at risk of robots taking over the world and we are then involved in a real life Terminator situation. Rise of the Machine – trust me it’s coming. That’s if we all don’t blow up in 2012.
15. Back to travel – and I’ve only been a handful of places in my life. Sydney when I was 4, Calais in France for a school trip, Berlin for a college trip, Amsterdam, Majorca, and Ibiza. Hope to go back to Australia one day, as well as Ibiza and would really like to go to America.
16. I am an internet and information junky – I just love this stuff. This is my passion; it’s not “work” to me.
17. Can’t believe I’ve got this far without saying what football (soccer) team I support. It’s Chelsea FC – a London club. I do of course like to try and follow my local club which is Southend United. Come on!
18. I’m not much of a book reader, although I have recently improved. I prefer reading about topics rather than fictional books. Can’t remember the last fictional book I read.
19. I have a horrific 2 hour commute to and from work each day, so 4 hours a day are wasted. Would love to use this time by reading more, watching videos and generally learning more stuff, but my eyes get heavy and I fall asleep.
20. Speaking of sleep – I am a very heavy sleeper. It takes a lot to wake me. I twitch in my sleep, talk and dribble. I also snore a bit. These characteristics I feel make me a known idiot on the train in the mornings and people probably stay well clear from me. The twitching has led to me nearly hitting and kicking people. You’ve been warned.
21. I eat most things; it is easier for me to say what I don’t eat rather than what I do. One thing for sure is I don’t do Olives. To me – they are the Devil’s Grape. I do feel I have a nice balanced diet and try to eat as well as I can.
22. If I had to say I had a favourite food, I think it would be Spaghetti Bolognaise or other similar things such as Lasagne. Although saying that, Chinese is cool – especially Crispy Chilli Beef and Egg Fried Rice. Om nom nom nom.
23. I suffer terribly from trying to please everyone, which in turn means I ultimately end up NOT pleasing people.
24. I love to teach people what I can about the things I love doing. Ask anyone that has asked me a question about Social Media or SEO, and they will say I do not shut up. I just can’t help spewing out all this information. I do worry that it makes me look like a “know it all”, but in reality I know a lot and love to share it.
25. I am an absolute nutcase. I come out with crazy things, have a wild imagination and become very animated when describing things. Some people say I’m a comic genius (I think), others say I’m just bonkers.

Hey I just read your blog. Interesting stuff you have on your list. You mentioned you haven't been further north than Alton Towers. Trust me, you aren't missing much. LOL Having said that, Scotland is amazing. Definitely go to Edinburgh and Glencoe – really worth it. cheers.

I'm worried I may get a nose bleed if I travel further up than I have already!
After working with you for almost 2yrs, I must say it's been the craziest, random and foolish 2yrs in my life!! (LOLz) but it has been fun! All that you said about yourself was correct and yes he really doesn't shut up! But it's great cos we do get some great ideas arise from the madness – So keep up the good work soldier!!!
