Facebook Fan Boxes Know How to Attract You
Since viewing a lot of sites that have included their Facebook Fan Page box (well done guys – it really is a great move) I have noticed a bit of a pattern which I felt warranted a post.
This post wont be long (well it doesn’t need to be) but I thought it was an interesting point and one worth pointing out. If you have a Fan Page – you’d be silly not to include a Fan Box or a badge, or some form of promotion of it on your site.
After all, the more fans you get, the better chance you have of engaging with them in a way you may never have before. If you haven’t got a fan page – what can I say? Shame on you! If you’re interested in getting one set up – let me know!
OK, back to the point. Most times out of ten I’m logged into Facebook. It’s mainly idle but I’m logged in all the same. Now, if I’m surfing around on some of my favourite sites and they have a fan page installed, a VERY clever thing happens.
The fact I’m logged in, it picks up who my friends are and SHOWS me who else is a fan of the same page that I am friends with on Facebook, along with other randomly generated fans.
Let me show you an example with me logged in:

Fan Box View When Logged In
The guys I have highlighted in red are within my friends list on Facebook. Not only is it 3 people out of the possible 10 being displayed but the bigger picture is it’s 3 people out of nearly 62,000 fans that are being displayed to me.
If I wasn’t already a fan then of course, the “Become a Fan” button would be displayed. But don’t you think it would attract your attention more if you suddenly saw some of your friend’s profile pictures? It would stick out hey?
As a test, I refreshed this several times (as well as the amount of times I’ve browsed this site naturally) and sure enough, it’s not always 3 displayed at once, but it appears to be at LEAST one.
Now compare that with me being logged out:

Fan Box View When Logged Out
Not one of those people are in my contact list. Facebook of course would have no reference to pull any matches out, as I’m not logged in.
What a smart and cool feature!
So remember, if you haven’t already got a Fan Box on your site – what are you waiting for?! Oh and don’t forget to tick the box to display fans in the box. Remember, they can draw people in.
What do you guys think? Have you noticed this as well? Try it out, see if you get the same results!
