OK – so you’ve clicked on the “About” button to find out more about me, so who am I to disappoint?
Well, my name is John Hutson (aka The Helpful Guy) and I’m currently 27 (born in 1982) and based in the UK, so I spell things the “right” way 
. How did I get into all this online marketing stuff?
Truth be told – I dunno! I studied Media at college and then went onto Multimedia Technology at uni which was a very vast degree, so I learnt about a lot of things including marketing, which I always enjoyed.
However, I fancied myself as a bit of a web designer, and I did ok at that. Made some quite cool sites, and had some pretty high profile clients and I really enjoyed learning and developing within web design.
For some reason though – it suddenly hit me that I didn’t enjoy it as much and I took a breather from it and carried on working at my part time job in a call centre where I later became a manager.
I knew that wasn’t the career I wanted, so I continued to play around online learning about the million and one ways about how to make money on the internet. I just fell in love with this whole concept and idea and I ended up burying my head into all this information, trying out the “next big thing” and then then next, and the next.
I made websites, but realised I just didn’t know how to get people to visit them, so I knew I had to know something about SEO (Search Engine Optimisation). I managed to find some free lessons online via a guy called Brad Callen – and that was the day that I really started to get some 
results (for traffic and search engine rankings). So, once I started, I couldn’t stop – I continued to learn about SEO and internet marketing.
In late 2007 I got the news that my night shift at the call centre was shutting down – it wasnt gonna be a 24hr service any more. I had two options, I could either leave or change shifts. I had been there 5 years and I knew if I stayed that would not be a wise move. I got out of there and in Februray 2008 I was gonna be unemployed.
I applied for SEO jobs, as I realised that is what I wanted to do and I knew it would help me progress much faster by being surrounded by like minded people. After a couple of interviews I managed to land a job for the UK’s biggest gambling company, working on their SEO! I thank Gustavo Bacchin for taking the chance on me. He’s someone I admire a lot. He’ll hopefully be doing some guest posts for me on this blog – so keep your eyes open!
So – from Feb 2008 to present, I’m still doing SEO for the same company, and recently have been heavily embracing the whole world of Social Media and that is why I am bringing together this blog. I want to bring you the latest internet marketing news, seo tips, social media advice, product reviews and interviews to share my passion and my knowledge with you.
